February is a transition month in Morocco. Winter is loosening its grip, spring is beginning to stir, and the country sits in a sweet spot between the coldest weeks of January and the warming days of March. Tourist numbers remain at their annual low, hotel prices stay 20-40% below peak-season rates, and you can explore the medinas, mountains, and desert without competing for space.
The headline event is the Almond Blossom Festival in Tafraoute. Each February, thousands of almond trees burst into bloom across the Anti-Atlas valleys, painting the rocky landscape in soft pink and white. It is one of Morocco's most photogenic natural spectacles and a genuine cultural celebration with Berber music, dance, and local gastronomy.
The Sahara Desert remains in prime condition. Daytime temperatures of 20-22°C make camel treks and dune walks comfortable, while nights — though still cold — are warmer than December or January. Valentine's Day travelers find Morocco especially romantic: candlelit riad courtyards, private desert camps under star-filled skies, and hammam spa experiences create an unforgettable getaway.
Warming up from January. Sunny mornings, mild afternoons. Comfortable for all-day medina exploration.
Still cool with occasional rain. Quieter than any other season. Excellent for indoor craft workshops.
Warm, clear days. Nights still cold but improving. Ideal conditions for multi-day desert tours.
Final weeks of ski season at Oukaimeden. Lower valleys accessible for day hikes.
Mild and breezy. Good surfing swells continue. Water temperature around 17°C.
Wettest region in February. Misty blue streets in Chefchaouen. Bring waterproof layers.
Typically mid to late February, though exact dates depend on the bloom. The Anti-Atlas valleys around Tafraoute fill with pink and white almond blossoms. Local Amazigh communities celebrate with Ahwach dance performances, traditional music, almond-based dishes, and craft markets. The drive from Agadir takes roughly three hours through dramatic mountain scenery.
By late February, the first wildflowers appear in southern Morocco and the Souss-Massa plains. Poppies, irises, and wild herbs begin to dot the landscape, particularly in the Ourika Valley and around Taroudant. This is a preview of the full spring bloom that peaks in March and April.
While not a Moroccan tradition, several international hotels and riads in Marrakech host carnival-themed events and masquerade evenings during the pre-Lenten period, catering to European visitors.
