Marrakech is the most popular launch point for a Sahara journey, and for good reason: the drive south crosses the High Atlas, threads past the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, and ends at the great dunes of Erg Chebbi. With us, the long road becomes part of the experience — a private 4x4, an expert driver-guide, and unhurried stops at the landmarks most tours rush past.
From Marrakech you can reach either the dramatic Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga (the classic three-day route) or the closer Zagora and Erg Chigaga dunes for a shorter escape. We match the desert and the pace to your time and your appetite for adventure.
Three days / two nights to Merzouga is the sweet spot — it allows a proper overnight in a luxury desert camp without rushing the Atlas and gorge scenery. Two days suffices for Zagora if time is tight.
The definitive route — Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Dades Gorge, a camel trek into Erg Chebbi, and a night under the stars in a luxury camp before returning via Todra Gorge.

Private 4x4, expert guide, luxury camps. We tailor every mile.
Reaching the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga takes about 9 hours of driving across the High Atlas, which is why it is best done as a 3-day trip with an overnight in the desert. The closer Zagora dunes are about 7 hours away and work as a 2-day trip.
Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the tallest, most cinematic dunes and the richest camp experience, best for 3 days or more. Zagora (and Erg Lehoudi) is closer and suits a 2-day overnight when time is limited. For the truly remote Erg Chigaga, plan 3 to 4 days.
No. A genuine Sahara dune experience cannot be done as a day trip from Marrakech — the dunes are too far. Day trips marketed as "desert tours" only reach the rocky Agafay desert near the city. For real sand dunes, plan at least 2 days (Zagora) or 3 days (Merzouga).
Our private desert tours include a 4x4 vehicle with an English-speaking driver-guide, a luxury or premium desert camp, camel trekking into the dunes, dinner and breakfast at camp, and all the iconic stops — Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, and the Dades and Todra gorges.
