Agadir's Atlantic beaches sit closer to the southern Sahara than most realise. From here the natural desert is Erg Chigaga — the remote, towering dunes beyond M'Hamid that see a fraction of Merzouga's visitors. We turn the drive through argan groves and the Draa Valley into a journey worthy of the destination.
Agadir is the gateway to Morocco's most off-the-beaten-path desert. Erg Chigaga is harder to reach than Erg Chebbi, which is exactly why it rewards you with solitude, silence, and some of the finest stargazing in the country.
Three days lets you reach the Zagora/Draa dunes comfortably; the remote Erg Chigaga is best given 3 to 4 days for the rough final approach by 4x4.

Yes. From Agadir the natural desert destination is the Draa Valley and Zagora dunes (about 6 to 7 hours), or the remote Erg Chigaga dunes near M'Hamid on a 3 to 4-day route. Both are reached through Taroudant and Ouarzazate.
The Zagora and Draa Valley dunes are the closest true Sahara dunes to Agadir. For the dramatic, remote Erg Chigaga dunes, plan a longer 4x4 itinerary of 3 to 4 days.
Erg Chigaga is wilder, taller in places, and far less visited than Erg Chebbi, making it ideal for travelers seeking solitude. Erg Chebbi (from Marrakech or Fes) is easier to reach and has more camp options. From Agadir, Erg Chigaga is the natural choice.
Allow 3 days for the Zagora/Draa dunes and 4 days for Erg Chigaga, which involves a rougher off-road approach that is best not rushed.
